Each season, we help children to develop one of our 8 core skills kids need to become curious, capable learners who can contribute to their world. This Winter, we’re focusing on Persistence! Each lesson is designed to support a different aspect of Persistence, inspired by the unique survival powers of a different “Animal Superhero.” As kids learn ways to be active outdoors and bring the outdoors in, they’ll discover the magic of winter and how to play and learn outdoors in all four seasons!
In our Survivors and Thrivers unit, we will introduce a creature with amazing abilities to survive the Winter and discover that we, too have tools to help us thrive and play outdoors in all four seasons. In our Hard Workers unit, we'll take inspiration from creatures who help us focus on effort and repetition. In our final Clever Creators Unit we will play like creatures who build and create!
In the event of cancellations due to weather or illness, makeup classes may be added on February 25th and March 4th.
Ages 7-12, drop off class*

Tinkering with Nature programs are Big Kid versions of the Tinkergarten curriculum. This Winter, we'll focus on Persistence, taking inspiration from a variety of Animal Superheroes, who use their persistence to survive and thrive through the Winter. In each three-hour outdoor class session, our Big Kids will wonder, observe, experiment, and work together—all while building our Persistence skills. The class sessions will incorporate scavenger hunts, code breaking, and teamwork challenges.
Day One: Frozen Friends & Woodpecker's Work
Day Two: Push and Pull & Building Up
Day Three: Wonder Weaver & Nest for Explorers
We'll have snack time in the middle of each class. Warm herbal tea or hot cocoa will be provided. Kids should bring a snack from home.
*Although Tinkering with Nature is a drop-off program, parents are welcome to stay and observe. A limited number of parent volunteer spots may be available for adults who agree to stay and assist with the class.
Children who have been previously enrolled in a Tinkergarten season may join Tinkering with Nature at 6 years old.
Ben's Truck Time is $5 per session for the first child, or $10 per session for a family with two or more children. The playgroup is held outside, and the kids will be playing in the dirt or snow.
